  1. Write on the board: Writing an Informative Text about Understanding
  2. Here is an example of an informative text about understanding:
Topic: Understanding means that a person seeks knowledge and tries to learn the truth. I wanted to understand how many planets are in our solar system and what their names are, so I read a book about our solar system.
Fact 1: There are eight planets in our solar system.
Fact 2: The names of these planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
Closure: I showed understanding by seeking knowledge about our solar system. Because I showed understanding, I now know all the planets and their names.
  3. Now each student will write their own informative text, on their worksheet, about how Gitanjali Rao showed understanding.

NOTE: Collect and keep the worksheet on the following page for the next day’s lesson in which students will share their informative texts with a partner.
